Mothers Day is coming! I need ideas!

Mama is the mother of my children and I want get her something special this year for Mothers Day. Any ideas? Here are a couple I have been thinking of. I know she could use a new iron. rhe one I got her a few years ago is not working that well. Do they have any that have a built in FM or CD player she could plug in head phones. Item #2 I am thinking of is a beautiful flower print sun umbrella that will fasten to the push mower while she is cutting the grass. A little secret, I am hoping for Father's Day that she will buy me a nice new hammock for the back yard - plus some ear protection so she won't have to worry about waking me while she is mowing the grass.

Tam suggested already that I should serve her breakfast in bed, but that's impossible, she is always up before I am to start working on the list of chores I give her the night before. Tam also suggested a home-made card - I can do that! Maybe right on the back of the list of chores I give her on Saturday night before Mother's Day.

Any suggestions? Remember, mama is special! I also wanted to get her something that smells good, so I think I will get her some lemon scented Pledge.

Your wife is an amazing woman...she puts up with you!!! Folks, do not think he is kidding when you read about how much Mama does...she is definitely an energetic worker, and Papa is definitely a slave driver!!!! But he has a soft heart (am I still your friend??).

For Mother's Day for myself, I would like to get an email or a letter or a phone call from both of my children saying "Mom!! I've rededicated my life to God!! I'm sorry for the wasted years, but from now on I'm going to follow His call on my life!" Remember, I am on a Journey of Hope, and no one can take away my Hope for my children!

As to what else you could get Mama...how about a wagon to pull behind her bike so she can haul paint and supplies for her painting projects; rakes and yard tools for her yard work; yard waste out to the burning pile; and the remnants of your humble pie, after you have eaten it...and you know what....Have a nice day, Papa!

Carol - actually I got the suggestions from your hubs! just kidding! I like the wagon idea! She could use that to bring me ice tea while I rest in my hammock. I do work too - I have to put gas in the mower every week!

Pops,

Thanks for the tip!! I've already started my card; however, I only have a 1/2 page left to work with. My list for next Saturday has already extended to the back of the page...After all, we need EVERYTHING done on Saturday. I wouldn't want Joellen to have to do anything extra on her special day... just Sunday dinner.

This is Mama, By the way Carol a wagon sounds kind of neat. I am going to be painting my Mom's living room soon. Of course it should be a fancy one! Ha! I hope Papa lets me go over all the suggestions that come in and give him my own helpful ideas. Ha! You all have a good day out there. Mama

Greetings Anonymous ( I suspect my son-in-law!) take good care of my daughter! And good luck with your list!

By the way folks - I will be gone most of the day - so I won't be able to comment until late this afternoon! Taking Amos on an extended trail ride!

Papa, now I am getting real jealous that you have found such a great wife as Mama. :)

If anything happens to you make sure you leave her my number. :)

You don't sound ambitious enough, I won't say lazy, for a big project. Perhaps writing Mama a poem or a prayer might be best since you do have a great gift for words. You could spray her favorite scent on the paper.

For father's day you could suggest a little bell so you can ring it when you want some more lemonade while you are in your hammock. Just make sure she doesn't pour the lemonade over your head. :)

Indian Lake Papa said...

Ed, I think I can write a little prayer - thats a great idea. I like the bell too - that would be better than hollering at her when she forgets.

You lied to me when you said you were the sweet sensitive type!! I suggest you give her a match so she can burn all these ideas. Then, beg her forgiveness and make room for her on the hammock ;)

Mama sounds wonderful, I guess I would suggest lemon scented Ben Gay. Just kidding. I am not sure, I guess I would like for mother's day just to waited on and appreciated. May be that is what you should do for Mama. If you can not make her breakfeast, make her a nice lunch, maybe a picnic. Have a great day, Love Tanya

LA - mama is very special. I am afraid to give her anything that makes fire - she may burn the hammock with me in it!

Tanya - I assure you - Mothers Day will be special - if I survive it!

Papa, uh...an iron, and you want a hammock???? That made me laugh so hard. "Here Mama, do some more work, I'll be in my hammock....: tee hee

Why not write her a letter of memories? Special things you remember from when your kiddo was small til now. Or maybe contact some of your "other" kids whom you have ministered to and set up calls through the day? Love you Papa.. you are special!!!

You are SO WRONG - haha. You need to set your alarm clock extra early and make her breakfast in bed. Have one of her favorite flowers (or more) in a vase on the tray. Accompany it with a poem expressing your love. Then rub her feet when she is done. Make her a nice bubble bath with soft music playing in the background. Iron her clothes for church while she is getting her bath. Take her out to lunch or make her a special lunch. Go for a walk before or after your Naz nap that you both take in HER new hammock. Have fresh squeezed lemonade on a little table next to the hammock along with some fresh fruit. If she wasn't up for the bath early in the morning maybe evening would work better.

Hope that helps ;)

Oh my favorite mother's day was my first mother's day. My husband and lost his job when my daughter was 5 weeks old and we were in a money crunch, but he wanted to do something special, so he wrote me a story that I will always treasure. It meant so much to me because he invested so much of himself into it and the story told me how special I was to him and my sweet baby.

Other mother's days he has tried more expensive things, but I like simple best.

1GG - apparently you didn't like my ideas. I will try some of yours. I like the memory idea! I think the kids will call.

Jumping Jehosphat Robin! I need to hire a butler to do all that! I need to talk to your hubby! But I might be able to swing a couple of em!

OH MY WORD this had me CRACKING UP! hahahah!! I was dying by the time I got to "Lemon scented pledge" HAHAHA!!

Ohhh Papa, you think you are soooo funny. ;-) heehee

Personally, I would like a box of truffles, some flowers, and a few hours to myself. Feel free to pass that on to Jake. ;-) haha!

Robin said...

Oh don't worry I would never expect all of that - of course I wouldn't turn it away either :) Seriously just knowing that I'm valued is more than enough. I was just messing with you :)

Indian Lake Papa said...

Brandy - I give her time to herself - when she mows the lawn! ha! I likr the truffles idea. Have Jake read this post & comments - maybe you might get that new iron!

Robin - you scared the day lights out of me! ha! Actually I think I can do some of that!

But you know Mama is worth it :)

You bet she is! I sm blessed! You just have to meet this lady some day!

you little turkey you!

You know the sayin, "You only tease those you love!"

You must REALLLLLLY love Mama!!!

I'm sticking with Breakfast in bed. Get your lil booty up earlier and fix it for her. NO. Don't go get her an egg mcmuffin and terrible black coffee. And I agree with Deb, write a letter. That probably is the most lovingly and intimate things you can do for a woman IMO.

Come on Papa. You can do it! We believe in you!!!!

Fact is. You'll probably BLOW all OUR guys out of the water with whatever you choose to do! Even if you DID buy her lemon scented pledge. Which, honestly, I'm out of right now so that would make me quite happy!

Indian Lake Papa said...

Your right Tam - I will do it up right! I will get a giant can of lemon Pledge! That will make me some points!

Breakfast in bed, with the honey do list on the napkin!!! You and your wife will enjoy the best Mother's Day together, and she probably already has plans for Father's Day! I haven't read your posts in awhile, as always they make me smile!!!!! Nana C

Lester from Slovakia left a comment on Genesis Chapter 5, so I went to his blog site, and he's a biker, and forms bike tours. If you go out to the right side of his blog you will see a menu. One of those items shows you the pictures of where they will be biking...gorgeous snow capped mountains in central Europe...go check it out. Maybe you can take Mama to Slovakia for a bike ride?

Indian Lake Papa said...

CDC - Mama can bike! She might show lester how to Bike! :o) You buying our tickets???

Julie said...

Oh good grief! I think you are all bark and no bite!
I think you are gonna get her her fav. flowers, and write a very special something, and sit on the porch (or hammock) and stroll down memory lane. Now that would be a nice way to spend mother's day.
Or you could run an add in the local paper declairing your love for her and thankfulness for all she has meant to you and done for you over the years. That also works. :)

Indian Lake Papa said...

Julie - welcome to my blog! I do still have my original teeth so my bite is still quite good! :o) You have given me some good ideas - this mothers day will be fun! I do have some surprises in store for mama!

wornoutwoman said...

I would surprise her the night before Mothers Day with a romantic candle lit dinner, and tell her why tomorrow is important to you. Let her know she'll be waking up to a list of every reason why you appreciate her as a woman, wife, and mother. Then after she goes to sleep, leave her a card with your list inside.

LIST every single reason why you love and appreciate her, even the corny ones. She'll feel very special that you took the time to be creative and surprise her.

Indian Lake Papa said...

WOW - thanks for the ideas - good ideas! I am making plans in my mind already.

Mostly Sunny said...

Wow, and iron AND Pledge? You sure are generous! You also gave me some good ideas for my stepdaughter's birthday (her name's Brittany Jo, but a little boy I used to babysit called her Sloppy Jo! If I were you, I'd buy her a really high quality sleeper sofa because I think you'll need it if you buy her an iron! Okay, I know you're just kidding. I think breakfast in bed is a good idea. But even better would be breakfast in bed, at a bed and breakfast, on the beach, in the Bahamas. Think you can pull all of that together in 6 days? ;)

Indian Lake Papa said...

Mostly Sunny - I think I will give her the pledge first - then the iron - and then maybe run! Bahama's !! I think I will suggest that for Father's Day!

Oh my goodness Papa! This post had my laughing. You are such a naughty boy! Mama MUST be special to put up with your slavery:)

Love and Blessings to you both!

Heather - I trained her right! ha! She is special - I WILL treat her right on Mothers Day - I will post after that and ask for an evaluation of how I did!
