The worse of the worst!

Recently several bloggers have "tagged" many people to perhaps list their favorite book in the Bible or list answers to a variety of questions - well, I want to do something a little different. I am not tagging anyone - actually I am tagging you the reader. If you are reading this I want/demand your comment - if you say that's not fair - I will give you a way out -

I want to know who do you think is the meanest, worst character in the bible? Who is the one character in the bible that really burns you? List the person, maybe a scripture reference, why do you dislike this person? Now - if you recognize my 'worst person' you do not have to participate , strictly voluntary - however, if you read beyond this point, and do not recognize my character than you must participate! My character is Adoni-Bezek - remember him? Didn't think so! You can find his story in Judges 1:4-7. His name in 'The Message' version is referred to as "My-Master-Bezek". He was one nasty king! Read the short story and see what he did!

I have to agree with you Papa..he was one nasty dude...and to think his name is a mockery to God...meaning..lord of righteousness...the God coms back and shows his name LORD of your righteousness.. studying some of the names and their meanings actually shines a light on who they are...no wonder God was changing names as they moved closer to him...but this is a tough one...I can think of several others that burn me...

He was a mighty king - he captured 70 other kings! He was a vicious man - but what he dished out he got back in return! Like they say Darla, what you sow, you reap. I love the different names of God - HE is many things to each of us!

I love the many names of God too, that shows me that HE is exactly what I need for each circumstance..it was a very encouraging study, and also stayed with me.

I am also amazed at the "bad" people in the Bible, because they still worked out God's plan whether they wanted to or not, and are an example of what can happen when deciding to become our own god. Keeps me in check! love ya!

Darla - King Saul was one of those that had so many opportunities to do it right and yet as much as he screwed up God's plan went forward. Have a great day!

satan...you can read all about his escapades throughout the Bible, from Genesis chapter 3 onward. Now, maybe he doesn't count, but without him, there would be no nasty, mean, immoral, evil characters in God's book. satan changed the story, but he didn't change the outcome! God still wins...and so do His people! Hallelujah!!

"and if the devil doesn't like it he can sit on a tack, sit on a tack, sit on a tack...." (did you sing that as a child?)

Like Carol, I thought of Satan right away. But my mortal choice would be the woman who was willing to let King Solomon cut the baby in half that she stole after hers died. Of course now days they would plead temporary insanity due to the devastation of losing her newborn.

Jezebel

Keetha - Jezebel was one of those that popped in my mind as well. She even made Elijah run for cover!

CDC - Satan! THat's a good choice - the problem with that one is he is still around today!

Daizy - i never thought of that Woman - but that was as evil as you can get. today we would have to compensate her some how!

oh boy. There are so many awful people in the Old Testament.
I think Mannasseh, king of Judah was one of the worst, though. Oh did he do some terrible, wicked things.
He set up alters to the hosts of heaven in God's Temple! He sacrificed his children to idols.
"He shed very much innocent blood until he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another." 2 Kings 21:16

But in the end he repented and our gracious God forgave him. It's a wonderful redemption story found in 2 Kings 21 and 2 Chronicles 33

Kay - even in the Old Testament God's Grace is Amazing! Each of us should be praising God constantly for his forgiving Grace!
