""... Just Like Papa!"

This is papa's Irish Spring Body Wash it has an "8 hr scent system". It works great when taking a shower.

Recently Derek, Scott & Darla's young man that is now going into his teen years, took a shower at papa's house when visiting over Labor Day weekend. He used papa's Irish Spring. When he had finished he remarked; "Now I smell just like papa!" We all got a kick out of that - but then I began to think ---

If Derek took his notebook and followed papa all day - would papa be a good example of what a Christian should be? What would he write in his notebook?? Paul, in God's Word instructs us to be good examples so others would see Christ in us and that if they followed us we would lead them in the proper path. I wonder - am I a good example?

Lets see, I wonder what Derek would put in his notebook if had I stood there complaining to my neighbor about the worship service at church? Music was too loud, No Piano or Organ, way too contemporary for me sounded like "bar room" music. What if Derek heard me complain about the pastor? He just preaches too long - needs more depth in his sermons. Hummm, I wonder what Derek would put in his notebook if I had started my day in a hurry and didn't take time for at least a few minutes of personal devotion time with Jesus? What if Derek would hear me humming all those good ole Country & Western songs all day and not some of those Christian lyrics I hear on mama's radio? Oh yes, one more thing, my TV - what was that program I was watching???

At the end of the day was I pleased that Derek said: "I want to be just like papa!" ?

LOL
You know Derek did carry that notebook around alot at your house..but I checked and he was drawing and writing song lyrics..

We really do need to remember that others are watching our examples, and we need not to be careless. This is so very important.

Derek still smiles when I say Papa..and he really liked smelling like you...I may be to buy some Iris Spring for the boy...any lure to the shower is good!

Janis - thats funny - that night i came to your place in my jammies i had just used my Irish Spring - now you explain this comment to the group! lol

Darla - I know he had his notebook. I did think about that as I did my post. I LOVE Derek - I pray for all three of your children - by name - each night. Maybe the parents too - lol! Love you all!

Great post! Great application we can all make to our own lives because there are lots of Derek's out there watching each of us carrying their notebooks...

Yes, papa, you came to my place in your jammies late at night and I was sooooooo happy that you came. I had been so down in the dumps until I knew you were coming and was overjoyed when I saw you pull in the driveway. You made me so happy!!

Papa, when I grow up I want to be just like you to. :) Of course that is mostly because you have Mama. :)

Do you remember to use the Irish Spring after one of those long bike trips. Right after you get home and have your heart attack from trying to keep up with Mama. :)

I don't need someone following me with a note book, I just need to think of my grandmother looking over my shoulder.

Ed - I think my mother is still looking over my shoulder - I think she is pleased - most of the time! lol How about your grandmother?? What would she say to you now - - ?? :o)

Irish Spring works good after a bike ride!! lol When I ride with mama she goes back & forth all over the road - because i ride slower than her - but I am getting back in shape! When I do - mama watch out!

"How about your grandmother?? What would she say to you now"

Papa, overall I do think she might pleased. There were times over the years when she would have wanted to rap my knuckles.

There are still have some days when my behavior is not up to her standards, so I should keep looking over my shoulder.

Good blog, Papa! People are watching us all the time, and Christianity is being judged. Do we represent Christ, or self? Our accountability is more crucial than most would believe!

Ed - my grandmother would overall approve - I think. I found letters that my great great grandmother wrote in the late 1800's that were written to my grandmother when she was a little girl - long story. I hope she approves of my life choices. i, like you, would hope she is watching over my shoulder.

Carol - Have a great day - I will be watching! ha! Things are quieter now.

I love your posts. They ALWAYS give me food for thought.

Love this one in particular. I know there are days that if someone was following me they wouldn't see Christ. That bothers me. Thanks for the challenge! I'm taking it!

Love to you and Mama!

Aren't kids and the things they say just the best?

Heather - it is a real challenge - the post may be cute, but it is serious - we will pray for each other.

Rachel - Derek is a great young man. Pray that he finds good Christians to follow - his parents are good examples.

Tam - many eyes Tam - many eyes! And - just as many ears!

I love this, Papa!

I grew up with lots of griping about the music and preaching at church. So glad I learned to hate it instead of "following after" my folks.

Thanks.

Michelle - It is a vicious trap - we need to be careful what we say & do - not that we have to tip-toe but that we need to be good examples of Christ-likeness.

Ooh! That stuff smells so good! =D

I would guess that if you were kind to young Derek he would treasure those memories!

Derek & Trina are both very special - i hope that of all traits that papa has that kindness is right at the top. Pray for me that it always will be.

Wow Papa, this was truly a great post! This is what we need to ask ourselves everyday. Thanks so much for your gifted insight and ministry by posting this and making us all "think" about these things. :)
Love in Jesus,
Linda

Linda - don't get nervous looking over your shoulder - after all your following Christ - let the others follow you and be confident where He leads you!

Papa, no one is perfect so list a few of your tiny faults only shows your human. You try so hard to be what God wants you to be, so don't forget to write that one down in Dereks book! :)

Indian Lake Papa said...

Kim - please don't tell Derek or anyone else, but Papa has made some doosie's of mistakes that he knew better! But God's Grace covers them all!
