Papa's Funeral Arrangements

Well the other day mama started my funeral arrangements. Please - do not send flowers yet! Donations would be fine, but no flowers at this time. Would any of you like to sing a song at papa's funeral? What would you sing?? We will put it in the program - maybe. I did tell mama I would like my casket to at least look like wood. The one mama picked out for papa costs about $1195 - not too bad.

What do you think? Are funeral pre-arrangements a good thing? I am thinking of having Ed and Sir Robert as pall bearers - but not sure where they would take me !! LOL !!

I don't sing well...and you know that I sang next to you in church! hahahahahha hahahahaha this post is cracking me up!!

Wonder where Sir Robert and Ed would take you?? mmmmmm love those guys...and I was hoping that your funeral arrangements would be more like a Praise service, and then a blog party...not really..but what a cool thought I just had ;)

I think this is a good idea. My grandparents did it years before they passed and it made everything so much easier on their daughters. It truly was a gift of love.

Very thoughtful.

Papa, I am praying Jesus comes before I die . . . then it'll be easy to pass from this world to Heaven. My husband says he wants to die by getting hit by a bus while he stooped down to pick up a dollar bill. His last thoughts would be, "I'm a lucky guy!" Anyway, don't die anytime soon. It's good to be prepared. Be blessed.

Darla - it will be party time! Mama will probably be playing Farkel!! it should be a real praise party - sorry mama, I won't be able to play Farkel with Trina & Derek. Scott can play the guitar.

Michelle - I agree, it will take the pressure off my family. I may not pre-pay, my family can sell my boat's to pay for it - actually we are going to setup some form of trust fund w/the bank.

LA - Well - I hope your right - but, so far that ain't happened!! :o) No rush here!

If I remember your descendants were from Sweden. I think a Viking funeral, a flaming ship sent off to sea, might be appropriate.

I wonder if Amos would object to being included as an offering to Oden. Fortunately you are Christian so I guess he is safe.

One of a Viking chieftain’s “thrall women” would volunteer to be sacrificed to join him in the afterlife. I am not sure if Mama would want to be considered your thrall woman.

I am sure she will join you in the afterlife but I suspect she would prefer to do that her when her own time is up.

Ed - I love it! I am sure amos would love the ship ride! I am trying to visualize it all! Thrall women - oh my, mama may not let me go!! Is Robert coming with ??? Wait until my pastor hears my funeral arrangements!

Our family buried my mother one year ago in June, and I can honestly say the pre-arrangements were welcome. There was very little that had to be done; in fact, all I can remember is driving to the funeral one time before the funeral - everything else was taken care of.

Papa, I hope you stick around long enough to get all the details worked out.

Looks so comfy you would almost want to crawl right in...
or not!

I'd say to ask your lovely wife what she wants since you won't really care by that time. =P

Crossview - Think we can get "KR" to sing "I'll Fly Away!" ?? I just don't want her to stick out her tongue at the end! lol

Papa~I would be honored to sing at your funeral. I can sing for you next time I see you so you can approve it. One of my favorite songs to sing at a funeral is "Going up yonder...to be with the Lord" and another is "My soul is anchored in the Lord."

Amos could make for a good pall bearer ;)

Love you so much. Your daughter, ME :)

GCh - I almost didn't do this post - I thought of you and your recent loss and I did not want to upset you. I love you -

I would be tickled to have you sing at my funeral - hopefully by then they have to pick you, Deb and Tam up from some nursing home to do it - I plan to still be around for some time. If we go with Ed's plan you may want to wear a life jacket!

Papa - wise to be prepared, but we like you here for now - I know SELFISH kids :)

Life Adapted - yes that would be a great way to go thinking you are lucky for finding a $100 bill (haha I want to be luckier) before getting hit by a bus of course not for a hundred years :)

Papa - love the comment about picking up the singers from the nursing home :)

Pray for me... I have a sinus infection and extremely tired because sleep is hard when you are in pain and can't breath... I started antibiotics a little bit ago.

Indian Lake Papa said...

Robin - do you sing? or would you rather be in charge of the guest registry - if your too old when that happens, maybe one of your grand kids could do it!

be sure that mama and papa pray for you each night during our prayer time - and even whisper a prayer now and then through the day. :o)

I heard this best upcoming artist this weekend… our church hosted Jason Gray… he was incredible (!!!)… he deals with a stuttering handicap, but sings better than anyone… if you link below & click on the left where it says “Launch Juke Box” you can hear one of my favorite songs he sang called, “Losers”… it’s whimsical and incredibly meaningful all at the same time… happy Monday!!!

This robin sings every chance she gets in PRIVATE. I also sing in church with everyone else, but not alone.

Put me down for the guest registry or helping organize something or serving in the food line. I'm good at serving people - one of my favorite things.

Thanks for your prayers - I sure need them. I just got word from our Home Owners Insurance - our damages are NOT covered... well at least we were on top of it during the worst part and friends loaned us some needed items to help us in the clean up process. Now just pray that I can get everything back where it belongs and that we don't have any other problems/complications from the flooding. I'm a bit concerned about mold. We can't afford new carpeting, but I'm considering hiring a professional cleaner...

Pray also for my illness - its zapped me of energy 0f course staying up until 3am Saturday night surely helped in the zapping process. I saw the doc yesterday and he prescribed antibiotics for my sinus infections. Ears and chest hurting too. So I'm being pretty lazy right now...

Robin - you are in my prayers - and, the guest registry job is yours!

I'm glad you guys are arranging this early, in plenty of time for you to live a long healthy life. It takes the brunt of those decisions off your loved ones. Good for you Mama & Papa!

Indian Lake Papa said...

Kim - we are getting it done - its kind of like learning CPR - if you have to use it, someones in big trouble!

Wow - Unk - how morbid!!! I personally am thinking about having pyrotechnics at my funeral, but don't steal my idea!!! Let's see... how about a nice Irish dirge or better yet some kilt wearing Scotties playing bagpipes - I will definitely make it to your funeral then!! :)

Love ya Melanie!!

Melanie - how terrific you showed up! at my funeral, will you hold unk papa's hand ? I would like that! heh heh ! I hear you met one of my favorite people in Chicago the other day!
