Tornado Warning ! Take shelter immediately!

Most of my blogging family knows that papa and mama live on a church campground. besides all the other facilities here there are approximately 175 homes like ours that people call home. We like it here - love it - we feel secure.

Yesterday at 4:45PM that security was shaken. Suddenly the camp warning siren went off - a Tornado Warning for the area had been issued - a funnel cloud had been sighted. I already had the TV on and was aware of the warning. I wasn't overly concerned, it wasn't that close in my opinion so we stayed on the main floor. Besides the Notre Dame vs. Michigan football game was on. The siren stayed on as a warning for about 20 minutes - after a few minutes it didn't bother me, i just put the siren noise in the back of my mind. I did notice that Carol (blogger CDC Version) was driving her vehicle on the street warning people to take cover immediately. I waved through the front window, I don't think she saw me. Her husband Paul is the director for the camp.

I have heard the warnings before, we have lived here 14 years, no tornado's here yet. I think we can relax. Yesterday is gone - the threat is past.

Kind of like the attitude we have about Christ returning someday. We have heard the warnings, almost like sirens in the background. No rush! No worry - it hasn't happened - yet.

kind of like procrastination too. not taking things serious enough to tend to them. yep, i hear ya Papa!

glad you all are safe tho. did it ever touch down?

You are so right! great reminder.

And yes, I am the one and only Rachel that commented yesterday who's blog you visited this morning. :)

Tam - it touched down abouy 30 miles west of her - a car dealership damaged. Some wind damage in our area. One was also sighted about 15 miles north of us. That was close enough - we ended up with 10" of rain the past two days!

Rachel - like Tam says, we tend to put that off - we have time and we are safe besides.

Rachel - I am confused! which blog are you ?? Must be my dementia!!

Good analogy, Papa. We should also remember that the nation of Israel ignored the prophet's warnings for about 250 years. They'd become jaded to the idea of judgment, too, yet God did what he said he was going to do. It should prompt us to faithful living.

Indian Lake Papa said...

Char - we need to take God's warnings very seriously.

Except that tornadoes can disappear or switch directions at any moment and God holds steady...

=P

You're not throwing things at me, are you? =/

Glad y'all are ok.

I hope I get it before he comes. hmmmm

Indian Lake Papa said...

Crossview - Not throwing things yet!

Scott - hopefully we get this all figured out - whats nice is God's Grace, we just need to be obedient children.

It must be rather unique living on church grounds like you do. Beyond that, though, you are safe, and know beyond any doubt the Lord protected you and yours. We are so blessed, even in the storms of life.

Some lose all their worldly possessions, but still have life. My desire is to have eternal life that no one can take away.

PreacherPen - what is unique about the church camp is the opportunity to work with those that pass through the camp that are unsaved. I am trying to "followup"/"mentor" a couple of 9 year old girls. I also shared Christ with a pre-teen boy who is experiencing family problems. It is a great out-reach tool! Need to keep the "warning" on every ones mind!

Sorry, Papa, didn't see you in the window. I was busy warning people on the streets, our weekend guests in various buildings, and our widow ladies, plus gettting the three buildings with basements open for people to go to for shelter. But, like you, I didn't take it too seriously for myself. I went back home and just sat in my living room with my Florida guests.

CDC - fortunately the tornado's went on by! However the flooding has made a mess and still coming up!

Lacy - we live almost within a stones throw of Indian lake and the flooding has been bad. We are fine but several homes are having water damage - we are on higher ground.

CrossView said...

"Higher Ground" is always the best place to be! ;o)

Indian Lake Papa said...

Crossview - i hate wet shoes & socks - thats what you get when you don't seek "higher Ground"!

Good analogy and unfortunately, so true. Thanks for the reminder

Indian Lake Papa said...

Heather - we need to heed God's warnings - isn't that the basic msg of the bible? He came to save us!

CrossView said...

And the view is better, too! =P

And today just may be the official Mess with ILP Day....

Indian Lake Papa said...

Crossview - what did i do ?? "mess with ILP day" ?? oh - oh! ha!

mandy said...

PAPA! You just sat there and watched football?!?!?

And mama let you!??!

CrossView said...

It's a gorgeous day and I'm in an exceptionally good mood. So you get to be my target... =P

Indian Lake Papa said...

Mandy - It was an important game! Mama saw your comments and said; "I trust papa!" She really did just say that! Thats even more scary when you think about it --- people trust us even with their lives --- now I have to weigh all this and its your fault!! lol

Indian Lake Papa said...

Warning! Warning! crossview is in a good mood - she may try cooking! warning warning! put the marine/s on alert!

CrossView said...

I won't even BEGIN cooking until the Marine's have landed... =P

I'm frying potato chips tonight. Should be interesting!

Come on over and bring your fire extinguisher.... =D

Indian Lake Papa said...

Crossview - the chips sound good - you do know how to heat the oil now - right?? Remember lessons learned and read the warnings on the labels!

CrossView said...

And the most important lesson:
NO ONE IN THE KITCHEN!
Too many distractions can be disatrous!

My hair's not white, it's platinum blonde! =P

CrossView said...

Uh, make that "disastrous"....

Indian Lake Papa said...

Crossview - blonde! I knew it! Don't worry - I would definitely stay out of the kitchen - maybe the house!

CrossView said...

Hey! Come on in and YOU cook! I'm good with that.... =P

Indian Lake Papa said...

Crossview - Do you have any mac 'n' cheese in the box and a couple of hot dogs in the house???

CrossView said...

If you're cookin', I'll be sure and have it on hand!

By the way, we survived. No flames this evening... =P

Indian Lake Papa said...

Crossview - i went outside and looked this evening for smoke - didn't see near as much as a couple of evenings ago - you must be getting this cooking thing figured out - finally. Whats it been - about 50 years so far??

CrossView said...

It was just a fluke.
Beware tomorrow night when I cook again...
And keep that extinguisher handy!

Indian Lake Papa said...

Crossview - I am sure you will do fine - wish I was there. which reminds me, are you coming to Fl to see us this winter ?? Get someone to feed the chickens.

Robin said...

Glad you are okay and that a tornado didn't roll through the camp ground.

I like your application to Jesus coming back - we must be ready!

Indian Lake Papa said...

Robin - I have seen the destruction of a tornado - our farm once. What a mess! we need to heed the warnings! The spiritual warnings have been sounded as well.

papa, could your and mamas prayers this morning for me dealing with a little boy 4th grade...very angry and disruptive. I need to let the school know today that he is so much of a distraction that I needed to pull my bus off the road to get him undercontrol...I have too many kids on this bus, to start with. THanks! his name is Dale. love you both!

Indian Lake Papa said...

Darla - will be praying - have already started. Mama is praying as well.

Robin said...

You are right the warnings have been sounded...

Where I grew up in Ohio we had lots of tornado action - so I've seen it too.

Anonymous said...

I pray for the day... I try not to forget, but sometimes I do...

I just pray for God's timing.

Stay alert Papa and Mama. For the tornado's also.

Robin - last night we lost power w/out warning. Power was out 4 hours. We were gone and not expecting it. Kind of like many events that come into our lives. All is well this morning.

Carl - just staying ready and hope and pray all my family - that includes you - are there as well.
