Celebrate Your Marriage!!

Mama is still sleeping so be quiet when you comment today! I have a surprise for her! She will cry when she gets it!

Today is our 45th anniversary of meeting - we met 45 years ago on October 3, 1963 at noonish in a department store. Mama was employed there and I was to meet her for lunch. The meeting was extra special as we had written each other over 300 letters - today we would finally meet. I had just returned from an 18 month tour with the military overseas.

When she wakes up she will find a (she is stirring - be quiet) box of candy, a nice card and a very personal letter (none of your business!) with the card, all setting on the kitchen counter.

This will probably be my last post for a few days. Sunday we go to Mackinaw Island to attend a conference titled: "Celebrate Your Marriage!!" with Jay & Laura Laffoon, Dr. Kevin Leman & comedian Joby Saad. The celebration will be Monday & Tuesday October 6 & 7.

You may ask, after 43 years of marital bliss, why go? well - mama needs a little fine tuning. Papa has done his best and corrected most of mama's weak areas, but she could use a little fine tuning from the experts! Nothing major or earth shattering, but a little refinement would be good!

She is just getting up now - well, almost - heh heh!!

UPDATE! Sunday October 5th 10AM - Mama and papa are out of here! The fun begins ! We will be back Tuesday Evening - see ya then!

This is MAMA:
What a nice surprise!! I am sharing my candy with Papa. :)
I can remember that meeting and what a meeting that was. We have had some great adventures together. I can say I love Papa more today than I did that day I met him. Life has been much more than I ever thought it would be on that day.
Papa and I have no idea what may be yet to come but we are committed to face it together hand in hand. God is our leader as we go forward.
Love you Papa and you all too MAMA

Have a great time on Mackinaw Island Papa.

Be sure to let every know how much you have helped Mama with all her weak areas. You might have to take some time to remind her before you go. :)

It is probably a good thing that a comedian will be there to help couples celebrate their marriage. :)

Nana - two big secrets to mama & papa's marriage, 1) we both love our Lord & Savior - 2) communication. I probably shouldn't say this, but for the success of the marriage, I give #2 top priority ---

Ed -You crack me up friend !! Believe me, I remind mama all the time how I have helped her overcome her weak areas! lol It is part of my humble nature! Comedian - yep, this marriage has been a comedy of errors & successes! :o)

Robin - As we prayed together last night we prayed for each other and that we would be good examples on this trip. We both prayed for Robin and her requests as well. Love you Robin!

Happy Anniversary!!! I love that after all these years you still want to go to a marriage weekend! how sweet! Hubs and I went to one a few years ago, and it was very good, we had a blast, and redid our vows there, and made another to vow to always work through things fight for it if we have to but never throw the towel in...that is probably the wisest thing I have ever done! ;)

Wow! I was 8 months old when you met.... =P

Hope you are having a wonderful time at the conference. And I hope your wife took that 2x4 with her. Sounds like she may need it - to keep YOU in line! =P

I wish I'd checked your blog earlier! My cousin and her husband were at the conference. I'd have told them to look you up. You didn't cross paths with a Sharon and Bert Smallwood, did you?

Sounds like a great surprise for Mama. I've tried keeping track of the anniversary of the day I met Richard, but its long forgotten. The best I can come up with is "sometime in October." That gives us a whole month to celebrate!

How romantic of you Papa! Of course, nobody is buying the whole 'Mama needs fine tunin' stuff!

I hope you have an incredible time at the conference. Sounds to me like you should be teaching the conference!!!! ;)

Love you both!

Willow - we are back! Mama got fine tuned! They agreed that papa is just a perfect mate! Flawless! They said my greatest quality is my humility!

Darla - we had beautiful weather and a wonderful time! We walked a lot. If you want to see where we stayed - find the movie; "Somewhere in Time" starring Christopher Reeves & Jane Seymour - The Grand Hotel, Mackinaw Island.

Heather - we had a wonderful time! a very special time for mama and papa. I wept a few times!

Char - i checked my blog a couple of times while there and got your message about your cousin! I checked quickly - but - they attend the earlier conference the day before! We missed them! :o(

Crossview - you are just a young puppy! ha! we had a wonderful time!
