Sacrifice May Require Risk

I have shared in the past about my brothers log home. Here is another picture of the kitchen area. The walls, cabinets, counter top, and floors are from trees that my brother actually went out and harvested out of the woods. He cut down the trees and milled them with his own equipment. This was his first and only log home. It is Beautiful.

He planned and saved money for years to do this project. He sacrificed much to make this dream a reality. he put himself at physical risk by harvesting over 200 to 300 logs for this home. That is a lot of chainsaw use - which is risky at best - I know I have been there. My brother had dreamed of doing this for years but hesitated because of the size of the project - today, several years later his dream is reality.

How are your dreams doing? Are you holding off because of the risk? Is the economy scaring you? Maybe its time you followed your dreams - I am not advocating foolishness, but maybe God is asking you to do something but your scared. Cost? Time? Life-style change? What is holding you back? Maybe it is not building a log home - maybe it is adopting a child. Maybe a career change or teach a Sunday School class. Me? Mine is writing a book and now I am going to finish it- pray for me that I don't quit - I am almost there. I believe God wants me to do this.
Lets pray for each other - what would you like me to pray about?

I've been wondering what had happened to your project. Now you've developed a reader following, so you know you can sell at least 50 books or so!!! Grin. You write well, your style is unique, your subject matter applies to almost everybody. Go for your dream. Funny, last night I just started reading a book by Harold Ivan Smith, "No Fear of Trying", and it's all about going after your dreams. Then your post...only thing is, I don't have any dreams. They all died and went to heaven. Perhaps God will give me a new one. I'll ask anyway. Go get 'em Papa!

WE love your family - so very much. I so much wanted to be in that room. Your video & sound was fine.

Carol - your words are a great encouragement to me. I am troubled by; "I don't have any dreams. They all died and went to heaven." I don't understand - do you want to share? Will pray for you! After all, "I am your friend!" LOL

Years ago, I was busy pursuing my dream while all along, quietly, God was replacing my dream with His. Now, I've found peace in ways I'd never imagined! ;o)

Crossview - it amazes me how God does that with our dreams and even our prayer requests. I think He gets a kick out of going above and beyond our expectations. He is an awesome God.

ahhhh...I am so jealous of this cabin. When I built my cabin, I "cheated" by using manufactured materials and modern methods. My dream actually is to someday build my own home in which my blushing bride and I will reside.

I may never see that dream come to fruition...it's those pesky kids, they keep coming back to the nest. So for now, I find contentment in my granddaughter's smiles and holding her while she sleeps.

It's not a bad trade-off really...

B4d - i refer often to this as a 'cabin' as well - but it is nice size with 3 baths, eventually 4 bedrooms, a wrap around porch - nice for a cabin! IT turned out well!! HE did iT!

I just posted this comment on my blog in response to your most recent comment. I really want you to see it because I am grateful for your choices, so I am coming over here to post as well just in case you did not see on my blog:

Papa,

This is why I love your writings as they are all founded on, "Choices R Mine," as in the title of your blog.

This is my honor of your choices to be a His servant. You have spared many heart ache, and blessed many because of this very brave and important choice.

Bless your sweet heart.

R

PS: And your prayer was answered! :0) Love you!!!

Hi Papa, this is a beautiful house!! What a sacrifice!! I am doing what I feel God has called me to right now... but you could pray for my children, Karen is without a job, she was released in Oct. and my son, who is a youth minister needs to find his wife.
Being in ministry without a partner is very hard.
Thanks!!
Sharon

Roxx - love you - pray each day that you and I both are always his servants.

Sharon - I have stayed several nights in my brothers new home. It is so special. It is within 100' of the waters edge snuggled in amongst the birch and poplars! I love to talk to God there - He just seems a little closer.

Hi Papa, Loved this post! There is something special about putting your whole self into something and then seeing the fruits of your labor that is so satisfying. I just know you'll feel the same about your book when you're done. I'm living my dream - raising my children into strong Christian soldiers. It's not easy, but worth every moment. Someday I'd like to publish a few children's stories that I've written - but that is for later. I'll be praying for your book. Be blessed.

Annie - most things in life take hard work if it is of great value. Especially our Christian walk!
