A strange title for a blog post. We really can't do much with our past. What are you doing with yours? This picture was probably taken the summer of 1946. A long time ago - I was three. I am the one standing in my sisters lap. This picture appears to be a happy family photo - and in some sense it was - but this was a very dysfunctional time in our lives.
Mom was in a TB Sanitarium, my older sister and brother had lost their birth mom by death years earlier, my brother (in dad's arms) was really staying with his aunt while mom was in the TB sanitarium. She was there 3 years. We were just having an outing at 5th Ave. beach in Manistee for the day. A fun day. The old pavilion in the background is still there the last I knew. All have moved on with their lives.
Mom and dad have gone to be with Jesus, the rest of us are still living our lives and counting our blessings until that day comes. In spite of all the years since this picture each of us has come through the years past doing our best to make the right choices each day. You do realize that the choices and events of today will make for your past tomorrow - right? How are you doing?

Thanks for sharing this story.
Will you join me in prayer for some of our family? They have exchanged the truth for a lie. I'm very sad and concerned.
Parsley - we serve the same God cares about our past and our future. I have already prayed and will continue in prayer for your family. Pray for my sister as well, she is now in long term care in a nursing home many miles from me.
Will do. Where two or more are gathered.... I'm joining you in prayer my friend.
Parsley - your prayers are greatly appreciated.
It's a funny thing- when I think back on the less than wonderful stuff in the past, I choose to make it different for my kids. And some of the things will probably be the very ones my kids change for their own children. LOL! By God's grace, we all do the best we can with what we have. But with God's grace, it's sufficient.
Crossview - we want our kids to have "flawless" lives, funny, we never did. :o)
doing well, missing you and Mama and feel like playing Farkel!
DArla - we miss you so much! Mama says bring on the Farkel!
We do have a lot in common. My mom had a heart condition and spent half her life in Hospitals.
You are right, we do need to make the best of what the past can teach us.
As long as the two of us have been around we should be genius by now. I must have skipped a few lessons. :)
I end every parting with my children with "Make good choices." Mostly they hear,"Blah, blah, blah." I pray each day that I make the right choices, not just for my future here on earth, but for my eternal future in Heaven. Great post, Papa.
Be blessed.
Ed - our problem is we have too many past years - maybe we should start over - ah, maybe not!
LA - right choices are always simple, but not always easy - sounds like a good blog title. Still waiting for you to stop by! :o)
Sounds like a great blog title!
Life is so busy. . .my husband will be taking the Bar exam in Florida next month, so until then, everything is on hold. . .we don't know where we plan to vacation this year. But I know God put you in my path for a reason and we will meet someday!
LA - bar exams?? That sounds like fun!! Curious why Florida, I thought the Northeast was home.
This is exactly what I needed to read. Perfect timing. Thanks for the prayers!!!
