Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas!!

Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas! What do you think? Is Frosty the Snowman and Santa Claus a real part of Christmas? Is there room in this holiday season for them?

A couple of good questions to ponder. Do they really fit and if so - how??

I think they do. If somehow they were removed from Christmas I think we would lose some of our Christmas festive spirit. It is a part of the season. If Christ were walking around, in the flesh, I think He would want to help us spread good will and cheer through the season. I think He would decorate, I think He would have a tree. I think He might even sit on Santa's lap and encourage Santa. Maybe I am wrong, but its my blog.

Christmas priority is the Christ child and the activities surrounding that. But if your moaning and groaning over the other aspects of Christmas and not spreading good will and cheer - you are closer to the Scrooge side.

Curious, if I am wrong, and that Christmas should strictly be about the birth of our Savior, born on December 25, 0000, tell me, how did they celebrate Christmas on December 25, 0001 ? I would like to know.

My opinion....they didn't. I think perhaps the shepherds might have been out watching their sheep and musing and saying to each other, "Hey...wasn't it about this time last year that we followed the star to see the baby in the cattle stall? Wonder how he's doing."

I think you are right Carol. Actually, we did not even have Christmas trees in the USA until around the 1800's. A lot of the Christmas activities are not that old compared to the actual birth of Christ.

I have my Scrooge side at this time of year. But isn't Scrooge a part of the festivities. ;O)

Personally? I think Jesus is happy to see the heart that goes into caring for others and gift-giving and seeing how happy kids are with lights, etc.

Merry Christmas!

Crossview - Bah Humbug! Ha! It is a significant part of Christmas. Watching a Scrooge presentation is almost a necessity at Christmas time - it is a good reminder for us all.

As someone who doesn't watch fiction (as per Phil 4:8) I don't think any of this stuff is relevant to Christians-yes, I read the CHristmas Sotry or whatever the book with Scrooge and the ghosts of xmas past etc. but that was before I read the writings of Ellen White fully and left the world of novels and fiction.)That's without taking into consideration the origin of the date (Dec 25)On the other hand, the season can be put to good use-using it to witness in some way, sharing USEFUL gifts...

Oh Thandi! We so enjoy the Christmas Season! It is the season to celebrate the birth of our Savior! The "stuff" of the season is so relevant to Christians - We take this time of year to take special time and do other "stuff" - I will do a devotional on Christmas Eve at the church - I am excited about that!! You have a blessed day today and draw closer each day to our Savior. Thank you for stopping by!

The Christimas spirit is, or should be, about anything that fills people with love, and makes people smile.

I don't think Jesus has a problem with anyhing that fills people with love.

That's a very good point Ed. Christ Wants to fill us with His love but He expects us to show love to others as He loves us. Christmas is a good reminder of God's love.

is it possible there is a difference between the national holiday and the religious holiday? That seems to be the only conclusion I can come up with as to why I don't totally disassociate from santa and frosty and rudolph n all. The true meaning of Christmas is in celebrating the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

santa n all have just become a part of our nationally observed holiday. At least that's how I'll justify it. :?

btw

thandi - phil 4:8 - Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Lauralee - I think it is a mixture of both. Just like we are Christians and yet we have professions/careers where we let Christ shine tHrough us. I think your scripture reference is a key for all our lives.

Jesus loved a good party, so much so he turned water into wine so a certain party would not end. Jesus also loved a good analogy, a good story, a good lesson and good cheer. Believing in Santa (someone we can't see) who brings us gifts just because he loves us (like our Heavenly Father) sounds just like something Jesus would embrace. That's my 2 cents!

Love you!
Have a beautiful celebration of Christmas!
