How many of you have ever rode on a horse drawn sleigh ?? Papa has - and papa has actually hitched the horse to the sleigh and driven. Only one-horse sleighs though. I learned when I was just a youngster - back in the 50's!
I remember hitching the horse for the first time and I thought I was finished and dad said; "not done yet, you need to hook up the two 'holdback straps' ". Now those two straps are important. They keep the sleigh from running into the back of the horse such as when you are going downhill or stopping.
I think God has a couple of 'holdback straps' on papa - maybe the principle is a little different, but He sometimes has to help me hold back - if not I get in trouble. Areas I have to learn to do better at are; my mouth (big one!), sometimes my attitude, getting too busy and not paying attention. Do you need 'holdback straps' ?

What a sweet and humble post! I'll have to say yes, of course, that I need some, too.
And I've never ridden in a horse-drawn sleigh. That would require snow. But I have ridden in many a horse-drawn carriage! =D
I think sometimes my "hold back straps" are loose! And I hate it when the sleigh of my life hits me in the backside!
Thanks for this wonderful thought-provoking post. God bless you this weekend. :-D
Crossview - I love sleigh rides - its been a long long time. growing up in the north - winter was special.
Sometimes I would get concerned whether the holdback straps would hold - but they always did. I have really stretched the ones God has placed on my life as well!!
Devoted - actually, my backside needs to be hit a few more times!
never been on one, but I've always wanted to. What fun that would be!!!!
Rachel - driving a one-horse sleigh is a fond memory - wish I could do it again - here in Florida, however, maybe not!
Thanks for visiting and commenting and I hope you will come back.
Nice to see a pic. of Nanatrish.
Barbara - thanks for stopping by also! Have a very Merry Christmas - and maybe a sleigh ride?
I do need "hold-back" straps, but they may not do me much good.
Being a "somewhat" stubborn person when I walk into a wall I have the tendency to get right back up walk into it again. :)
Ed - why am I not surprised?! LOL I just have learned to pick softer walls - if thats possible. heh ?! Mama will tell you papa can get quite stubborn as well - but I think I am choosing my 'fights' better.
I don't need any hold back straps...I'm perfect..a legend in my mind!!!! BTW - nice story on the sleigh. I've ridden in a buggy a couple of times, but have not made the "1 horse open sleigh" yet. Nice post.
Strider - I have spent more hours in a buggy than a sleigh - but a sleigh is special. Use to be wild and reckless on the buggy - dad got use to it coming home empty! :o( !!
i dont need'em. i already have them!!!
lots of them!
ok, but id totally love to ride in a sleigh. how beautifully perfect that sounds!
Tam - something special about a sleigh ride Tam - maybe some day. Always respect the hold back straps - don't try to go through life without them - you will get hit in the backside if you do.
You would need a sleigh to get around here on the campgrounds, had it not been for the ED plowing all day yesterday! It was pretty much a blustery day yesterday, with perhaps an accumulation of 12-15". So sorry you had to leave Michigan behind and head down to the same ol', same ol'! What a beautiful sight to see the ice cycles glimmering in the sunshine and the pines and bare tree branches all playing host to layers of snow. Truly the pine trees look like those Christmas scenes where a little bit of green peaks through patches of snow, and down the lane comes a horse drawn sleigh. Merry Christmas, my friend!
Hey, Jimbo....check out my "new" blog...my former "Quote and Notes" has been revised, and I have a new picture in my heading. Just stop by to see my picture and see if you can recognize the spot!
Hi Papa!
This is such a thought-provoking post. Yes, I also need hold back straps. I think I have them... only sometimes they malfunction. :-(
Take care.

Carol- NO snow here !! Our first Sunday has been fun - but busy! I taught the ss lesson today and will now for 3 months. I miss winter sleigh rides - check Paul's holdback straps to make sure they are working!lol I will check out your blog!
Brainteaser - my holdback straps have been replaced several times - I keep too much pressure on them! LOL
Dakota - will check it out young man!
I think I have hold back straps..The Holy Spirit holds me back alot lately. But that is good for me, I get in less trouble that way.
I do want to go for ride looking at this sleigh..
Sorry I have been so busy lately, I sure am missing you!
Darla - do miss you when you are busy - but I don't have a job or kids to control - plus you have P365! lol Have a great day today! Keep those holdback straps fastened.
